MANGALORE: There was talk of unexplained deaths of birds in poultry shops in Mangalore on Sunday. SMSs were being circulated on this, but many of the chicken shops in the city denied it and others dismissed it as a rumour. Sources in the Animal Husbandry Department stated that they did not have any information and stated that the rumour mill was at work again. One of the chicken stall owners in Urva stores market said that after a lot of difficulty, the price of chicken had come to Rs. 43 on Sunday after touching Rs. 25 to Rs. 30 earlier. If rumours such as these circulate, the price of chicken will come down and affect the poultry industry.
