BANGALORE: An 11-year-old girl died under mysterious circumstances at the residence of a financier in the Tilak Nagar Police Station limits on Saturday. While the residents of Corporation Colony, from where the girl, Pallavi, hailed, alleged that she was raped and murdered, the police have registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances. According to the police, Pallavi, daughter of Vasantha, was sent by the latter to fetch vegetables at noon. When she did not return even after two hours, a worried Vasantha went in search of her daughter. The police said she came to know that Pallavi had ended her life by setting herself on fire after dousing herself with kerosene at the residence of Karpanna (60). Karpanna is into finance dealings and is also a member of a political party, the police said. They suspect his grandchildren's hand in the girl's death. Before the news spread, Karpanna and his grandchildren had fled, the police said. As the police registered a case of unnatural death, the residents of the area staged a demonstration on Sunday alleging that the girl was murdered and demanded action against those involved. The body has been sent to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Alok Kumar, who visited the spot, said the police had definite clues about the culprits.
