Telemedicine facility in all districts soon: Minister

Staff Reporter

`Doctor on Call' service inaugurated at R.T. Nagar

BANGALORE: The telemedicine facility, offering quality healthcare at affordable rates, will be extended to all districts of the State, Minister for Health and Family Welfare R. Ashok announced here on Saturday.

Inaugurating a "Doctor on Call" facility at R.T. Nagar, Mr. Ashok said the telemedicine facility, at present available in some districts, will soon be made available in all the 27 districts. The facility was being offered with the help of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the benefit of people living in the rural areas, particularly the poor, he said.

Mr. Ashok said the existing vacancies of doctors and paramedical staff in government hospitals in rural areas will be filled up within the next two months. Lamenting that doctors were not coming forward to serve in the rural areas, the Minister said the Government would initiate steps to make it mandatory for fresh graduates to serve in these areas for two years.
