GULBARGA: The Dr. Ambedkar Horata Samiti on Monday demanded that Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa resign from the post for allegedly having a portrait of Ambedkar removed from his office in the Vidhana Soudha. Members of the samiti, led by its president S.G. Bharati, who took out a procession from the Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk to the Deputy Commissioner's office here, shouted slogans against Mr. Yediyurappa. They were joined by leaders from other Dalit organisations and the Republican Party of India (Atwale). Later, they staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office and submitted a memorandum addressed to Governor T.N. Chaturvedi to the Revenue Department officials.
Memorandum
The memorandum pointed out that the removal of the portrait of Ambedkar from the office by Mr. Yediyurappa amounted to insulting the Constitution and the late leader. Condemning the alleged act of Mr. Yediyurappa, the memorandum said the Deputy Chief Minister should offer his resignation on his own. He also warned that the agitation will be intensified if Mr. Yediyurappa does not step down.
