Kochi: The Youth Congress and the Mahila Congress have demanded an appropriate representation in the distribution of Assembly seats in the upcoming elections. The Youth Congress has demanded that 50 per cent of the seats be allotted to new faces, particularly youth. In a memorandum to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Youth Congress State president K.P. Anil Kumar said that tickets should not be given to first timers who are above 55 years of age. He also said that leaders seeking re-election for the third time should be given ticket only after scrutinising their contribution during their tenures as legislators. Mahila Congress president Shanimol Usman has demanded 20 per cent reservation for women in the Assembly elections in her petition to Sonia Gandhi. The Congress president also met leaders of other feeder organisations, including the Kerala Students Union, the Dalit and Adivasi Congress. In addition, Sonia Gandhi met separately Mr. Sankaranarayanan, T.H. Mustapha, V. Dinakaran, A.C. Jose, K.K. Ramachandran, P.J. Kurien, Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, C.V. Padmarajan, P.P. Thankachan, Aryadan Mohammed and M.M. Hassan at the specially built shamiana at the conference venue. In the morning, she met Speaker Therambil Ramakrishnan, V.M. Sudheeran and Vakkom Purushothaman. The Congress president also addressed a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP).
