Srikakulam: There has been a flood of applications for power connections to households under the Indiramma programme in the district. As many as 80,568 applications were received from the 38 mandals. In the first phase of the scheme, one third of the total gram panchayats -- the number is about 380 in the district -- had been selected for Indiramma programme. The largest number of 3,567 applications for power connections had been received from Ranasthalm mandal, followed by Mandasa (3,440) and Amadalavalasa (3,253) rural mandals. The least number of 619 applications was from Kanchil mandal. A total of nearly 2.50 lakh connections would have to be released at the end of second and third phase of Indiramma scheme in the district.
