NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to make a statement in both Houses of Parliament on Tuesday on the outcome of the Bush visit, particularly on the India-United States nuclear deal. The Opposition and the Left want a full discussion and are expected to serve notice immediately after his statement. In the Rajya Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party notice will be given in the names of Sushma Swaraj and Murli Manohar Joshi. Party sources said Dr. Joshi would speak on the issue. In the Lok Sabha, Leader of the Opposition L.K. Advani is expected to give notice asking for a discussion.
No clarification
in Rajya Sabha
The Prime Minister's convenience will be kept in mind when dates are set for the discussion. In view of the discussion, there will be no clarification in the Rajya Sabha. The BJP on Monday seemed annoyed at the Prime Minister not referring to the points raised by Ms.Swaraj when he replied to the debate on India's vote on the Iran nuclear issue. "I initiated the discussion and Dr. Singh preferred to respond to points raised by the Left leaders," she complained later. The Prime Minister was deliberately ignoring the main Opposition, the BJP leaders charged.
Hurdles go
On rescheduling of the budget session, it seems all hurdles have been cleared and a formal announcement will be made soon. The first part of the session is to be extended till March 22, by when the Finance Bill and the Appropriation Bill, the Railway budget and the Railways Appropriation Bill will be taken up for discussion and passing. The Railway budget is already under discussion. In the Rajya Sabha, the general budget is to be discussed on March 8 and 9 and the reply to the debate is expected on March 10. Post recess, the session will start on May 10 and continue till May 23.
