Gold and silver merchants' association to celebrate jubilee

ALAPPUZHA: The All Kerala Gold and Silver Merchants' Association will organise its year-long Diamond Jubilee celebrations of its formation from March 8 2006 to March 8, 2007, association State president P.T. Cherian Palathra said here on Monday.

Mr. Cherian said an international gold trade congress would be held in Kerala as a part of the celebrations. The details of the congress are to be announced later. Mr. Cherian said the organisation would observe March 8 as Gold Day. As many as 5,000 girls from economically backward families will be given earrings on the day free, he said. Alappuzha Family Court Judge Thulasibhai will formally inaugurate the programme at Jewel Hall here.

A seminar for young merchants and State-wide awareness seminars for the public will be held. Schemes for providing free food and medicine to poor patients in Government hospitals in the State, and extending help to the inmates of old age homes and destitute homes are also on the cards, he said.
