CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Governor and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, S.F. Rodrigues, on Monday called upon the IT professionals at the Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park here to evolve an integrated mechanism to facilitate a constant interactive process for mutual benefit and for bringing about efficiency and effectiveness in the system. He emphasised the need for constant performance audit and monitoring of operations to avoid slippage and to achieve the goal of making Chandigarh world class in the shortest possible time. Talking to IT professionals after inaugurating the facilities of Virsa System and Net Solutions and performing the ground breaking and Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of the `build to suit' sites at the Technology Park, Gen. Rodrigues said that these facilities launched by various companies would integrate the most powerful technologies, software, networks, data access systems and applications thereby creating a unique national resource that would catalyse new breakthroughs and benefit society.
To enhance research
"These projects promise to enhance our research and development capability and will help to make this region more competitive," he said while emphasising the need for using IT in the teaching process. "Society must be empowered through entrepreneurship education, technology training and the development of life skills to improve the quality of lives and to assist in levelling the business arena." Gen. Rodrigues said that the Chandigarh Administration had already set up the entrepreneur development centre and offered a partnership to the business houses. Chandigarh had the best available infrastructure facilities and efficient and responsive governance, with hassle free procedures, he added. S.K. Sandhu, Secretary IT, and Vivek Attray, Director IT, said that 21 companies had joined Chandigarh IT Park and out of these six including Infosys, DLF, IBM, Outer Bay, Virsa Systems and Net Solutions had already started their operations. Four other companies including Wipro, Bharti, Tech-Mahindra and E-sys Limited had been allotted land.
