NEW DELHI: A delegation of senior Delhi Development Authority officials led by Vice-Chairman Dinesh Rai is leaving for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne on Tuesday to see the way the preparations for the games have been made as Delhi is due next to host the event in 2010. Besides the Vice-Chairman, the delegation comprises the DDA Member (Engineering), Member (Finance) and Director (Sports). The selection of the officials going for the event has raised several eyebrows. Some DDA officials said earlier also the former Vice-Chairman Madhukar Gupta had gone to Australia twice to see the preparations for the games there. "But he got transferred out and so his visit and also that of the former Member (Engineering), who has also left DDA since, have not been of any use whatsoever.'' In view of such circumstances, DDA cadre officials are of the view that since they are permanent employees of the Authority and do not come in on deputation, some of them should also be sent to see the arrangements so that the benefit actually accrues to the DDA. In another interesting development, some non-official Members of DDA have complained to the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi that this time they have not been given proper intimation for the Authority meeting that was scheduled to be held on Monday but had been postponed. The Members complained that while the norm was informing people at least 10 days in advance, this time they had only been given six days' notice. In view of the situation, DDA decided to postpone the meeting till March 21 tentatively.
