M.S. Subbulakshmi
Bangalore: Some legends just live on, as does M.S. Subbulakshmi in the hearts of millions of music lovers. The Sri Lalithakala Academy Foundation of Mysore is presenting a three-day Geetanjali music festival at ISKCON temple here from March 12 to 14 to pay homage to the great musician. A highlight will be a painstakingly compiled video CD of the facets of the personality of "MS", including her early days as a singer and actress in memorable films such as Meera and her concert at the United Nations, and tributes from numerous younger musicians she encouraged in her lifetime. Some of the images are from the archives of The Hindu.
Sangeetha Ratna awards
The music festival will be inaugurated on March 12 by Ram Niwas Mirdha, Chairman, Sangeetha Natak Academy, New Delhi. He will also confer the Sangeetha Ratna awards on flautists Sikkil Sisters. The VCD will be released by the patron of arts Nalli Kuppuswami Chetty in the presence of Rani Satish, President, Karnataka Mahila Congress and former Minister, and Madhu Pandit Das, President of ISKCON, Bangalore. The inaugural concert will feature the Sikkil Sisters. The next day will see two separate vocal concerts by Pandit Muddumohan, Hindustani vocalist, and R.K. Srikantan, Carnatic vocalist. On March 14, Radha Thandaveswar, who has specialised in Dasa Sahitya, will give a concert. She was trained by the famous Papanasam Sivan. She was the first to conduct workshops on Carantic Music at the Tokyo Arts University.
