Sequel to YSR's reprimand of civic officials

  • Commissioner Sanjay Jaju inspects sanitation works in Jummerat Bazar and goes around some slums
  • Sanitary supervisor suspended, marching orders given to section officer
  • Corporators seek modernisation of Kishanbagh vegetable market

HYDERABAD: A day after being pulled up by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for the poor state of sanitation and cleanliness in the twin cities, the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad swung into action on Monday by initiating action against the erring staff.

Commissioner Sanjay Jaju inspected sanitation works in Jummerat Bazar of ward 14 and went around some of the slums.

    Overflowing garbage

To his shock, he stumbled upon overflowing garbage bins at places like Sitalamata temple, Devinagar and Ambedkarnagar.

    Supervisor suspended

Mr. Jaju pulled up the sanitary supervisor concerned - Mohd. Masiuddin - and when he did not give any satisfactory replies, ordered his immediate suspension.

A section officer belonging to the Town Planning Department too faced the Commissioner's wrath for `allowing' an unauthorised construction of a building in the middle of the Musi.

    Axe on section officer

    K. Srinivasa Rao, a section officer working in South Zone, was given marching orders on the spot for his alleged lapse.

The Commissioner oversaw works with regard to cellar violations, road widening and pedestrianisation of Charminar area.

He also inspected road-laying works under `Save Musi campaign' and other works in the area.

    New facilities sought

Local corporators sought the modernisation of the Kishanbagh vegetable market, development of a playground and sprucing up of the Moghalpura swimming pool.

Mr. Jaju and his team also pondered over the feasibility of constructing a road underbridge between Azampura and the Malakpet railway station.

    Works inspected

He also visited the sites of ongoing works at the foot overbridge at Dilsukhnagar and construction of piers for the flyover at Nalgonda crossroads.
