Encroachments blamed for overflowing sewage

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has blamed encroachments and dumping of debris in the Vrushabavathi valley as the reason for the damage caused due to overflowing of sewage water. According to S. Mruthunjaya, Superintendent Engineer (Storm Water Drain Project), dumping of debris in open spaces along the valley has been a major cause of concern. This debris gets accumulated near the Mysore Road bridge blocking the flow of storm water.

He said action has been taken under the Storm Water Drain Project to clear the encroachments in the CMC areas. With regard to BMP areas, BMP Commissioner K. Jothiramalingam has initiated survey of properties, which will be followed with the encroachment clearance drive.
