Waterlogging reported from low-lying areas on Mysore Road

BANGALORE: Two lorries and a bus fell into a huge drain across the Vrushabavathi on Mysore Road following heavy rains that lashed the city on Sunday night.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicles were parked on the bund of the drain. Following the rain, the mud embankment of the bund caved in.

The vehicles fell into the drain and were washed away to some distance.

There were reports of water logging in low-lying areas such as Nayandahalli and Rajarajeshwarinagar on Mysore Road and Bhadrappa Layout in Hebbal. Trees were uprooted in Cubbon Park, Rajajinagar, Mathikere and HMT Layout.

The BMP flood control staff and others swung into action from early morning removing fallen trees and to divert water from partially flooded roads. More showers have been forecast in the next few days. The rainfall is considered unusual for early summer; showers usually occur between mid-April and mid-May in the Bangalore region before the pre-monsoon rain.
