Kochi: The Kerala High Court has directed the Kerala Water Authority (KWA)and the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA)to file an affidavit in response to a writ petition filed against the setting up of more desalination plants in the city. In the petition, the Visala Kochi Kudivella Samrakshana Samithi said that the desalination plants already established in Kumbalangi, Cherai, Mulavukad, and Chellanam had not been working properly. The decision to establish more plants would be a drain on the exchequer. Besides, drinking of desalinated water would have adverse effect on the health of the people, according to the petition.
