dated March 8, 1956: Cambodian King

King Norodom Suramarit, ruler of Cambodia, was crowned in a glittering centuries-old ceremony in the throne room of the royal palace at Phnom Penh on March 5. The King, aged 60, sat on a lofty red and gold throne beneath a white and gold umbrella and received the crown from the hands of his son, Prince Norodom Sihanouk, 33, who was himself King until a year ago. He abdicated then to become the political leader of his people. He is at present Prime Minister. The King later crowned his wife, Queen Kossamak Nearikeak.
