The West Indies took a winning 3-0 lead in the four-match series when they beat New Zealand by nine wickets in the third Test in Wellington on March 7. The final scores were: West Indies 404 and 14 for one. New Zealand 208 and 208. The West Indies had won both the previous Tests by an innings.
