e-Cinema comes to Karimnagar

Staff Reporter

Rights secured by United Film Organisation

  • Telugu film Gajini being screened at Peddapalli from Monday
  • e-Cinema reduces power consumption by 50 per cent
  • Sri Ramadasu, Bangaram to be screened through V-Sat

KARIMNAGAR: Telugu feature film Gajini is being screened through V-Sat technology at Sangeeth Cinema Hall in Peddapalli town from Monday.

This is the first e-cinema to be screened in Karimnagar district.

Already, several Hindi films have been screened in Sensational Theatre of Hyderabad with the help of V-Sat. V-Sat's first Telugu film is `Gajini' and the film rights have been secured by United Film Organisation (UFO).

The benefits of e-cinema are that it is cost effective, reduces power by 50 per cent, reduces manpower in halls and enables free prints (reels). Besides, it can avoid piracy of films and is therefore a boon to theatre owners and filmmakers. With e-cinema technology, producers making films involving big film stars can save around Rs. 2 crore per film on prints costs alone.

    Low cost

Talking to The Hindu on Tuesday, Sangeet theatre owner, A. Anil Reddy said that UFO was collecting only Rs. 175 for each show screened with e-cinema technology to benefit theatre owners. For the installation of V-Sat system and other equipment such as Internet computer, the theatre owners had to spend Rs. 2 to 3 lakh and the remaining work is done by UFO which downloads the feature film for screening at the theatre, he said.

Now, there is no need for a theatre owner to purchase film prints at a cost of Rs. 60,000 or so. "By spending just Rs. 175, we could run a show and earn more profits," he said. He also said that soon producers were planning to launch films such as the Akkineni Nagarjuna-starrer Sri Ramadasu and Pavan Kalyan-starrer Bangaram through V-Sat. Already over 300 cinema halls in the country are screening films with the help of satellite.
