THIRSTING FOR AMENITIES: Residents of Sundar Nagar in Gulbarga staging a `rasta roko' on Tuesday on the Gulbarga-Sedam inter-State highway in front of the Government General Hospital.
GULBARGA: Residents of the thickly populated Sundar Nagar in the heart of the city on Tuesday staged a "rasta roko" in front of the Government General Hospital on Gulbarga-Sedam inter-State highway for over 45 minutes. They were demanding regular and adequate supply of drinking water and drilling of more borewells in the area in view of the scarcity condition. The residents of the locality, including a large number of women, came out of their houses in the morning and staged the agitation disrupting vehicular traffic. They said they had to walk a long distance to fetch water.
Bad road
They wanted the Gulbarga City Corporation to take up asphalting of roads at Sunder Nagar. In a memorandum to corporation Commissioner, the residents under the banner of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Tarun Sangha, urged the corporation to drill more borewells. They dispersed peacefully after the corporation officials rushed to the spot and promised to look into their problems.
