GULBARGA: The Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Sagar) and other dalit organisations on Tuesday staged a protest dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here demanding the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa for allegedly insulting B.R. Ambedkar by removing his portrait from his office at Vidhana Soudha. DSS members, led by its State convener D.G. Sagar and State organising convener Malleshi Sajjan, along with leaders of other dalit organisations such as Suryakant Nimbalkar of the Bahujan Samaj Party shouted slogans against Mr. Yediyurappa. In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and submitted to the Revenue Department officials here, DSS and other dalit organisation leaders said the mere apology offered by Mr. Yediyurappa was not enough and wanted him to resign on his own immediately to assuage the feelings of Dalits.
`Resign'
The memorandum said if the BJP has any respect for Dr. Ambedkar, it should ask Mr. Yediyurappa to resign and nominate another leader to the post. Prominent among others who participated in the dharna included DSS district convener Arjun Bhadre, district organising convener Suresh Hadimani, district convener of the Dalit Students Federation Umesh Narona and city convener Revanasidda Jali.
