Bank strike deferred

NEW DELHI: The proposed nation-wide bank strike on March 9 has been deferred following an assurance by the Chief Labour Commissioner that the issue relating to compassionate appointment of widows or family members of deceased employees will be negotiated with the Centre within the next 60 days.

In a statement, C.H. Venkatachalam, general secretary, All-India Bank Employees Association, said the Chief Labour Commissioner had assured them that the exigencies in which appointments could be made on compassionate ground and the compensation payable to the family otherwise would also be discussed within a timeframe.
