Women, a source of inspiration: Kalam

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has said women had an important role to play in the mission to transform the country into a developed nation by 2020.

In a message on the eve of International Women's Day, Mr. Kalam said women were a source of inspiration for the family, society and ultimately the nation. When a woman was empowered with value-based education, an empowered society was assured.

Chairperson of the National Commission for Women Girija Vyas asked the people to "rededicate" themselves to the cause of improving the quality of life of women. "When women thrive, the entire society benefits, and the succeeding generations get a better start in life," she said in a statement.

It was the endeavour of the Commission to reach out to each and every woman to empower her to enjoy her constitutional and legal rights. The modern Indian woman was aware of her rights and had made great strides in every sphere.
