Belgaum: The Belgaum Agenda Task Force (BATF) has urged the Government to concede its Rs. 129 crore proposal for drinking water supply scheme to the city. The BATF met under the chairmanship of Regional Commissioner for Northern Karnataka V. Umesh here on Tuesday. Those present at the meeting included Ramesh L. Kudachi, MLA, and Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh. It may be recalled that the BATF had formulated a scheme for safe drinking water supply and proper drainage system for the city when the S.M. Krishna Government was in power. Though there were assurances from the Government, they were not implemented. Mr. Kudachi pointed out that the present drinking water supply and drainage system was designed to meet the requirements of a population of three lakhs. Given that the population of the city had crossed the five-lakh mark, it was inevitable to expand the network to meet the demand. Any such expansion should also consider continuous growth of the population and the increasing consumption of water.
