Raichur: Manvi MLA N.S. Bose Raju and Sindhanur MLA Hampangouda Badarli have urged the Government to initiate action to release additional water from the Bhadra Reservoir to maintain water supply in the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal (TLBC) till April 15 to save standing crops in Koppal and Raichur districts. In a memorandum submitted to Minister for Water Resources K.S. Eshwarappa on Tuesday, Mr. Raju and Mr. Badarli said the ayacutdars under the command area of the canal have taken up summer crops such as paddy in about five lakh acres that need water supply till April 15. But the department has decided to suspend water supply in the canal by March end. In such a case, standing crops worth crores of rupees will wither away. They said although there is poor storage at the Tungabhadra reservoir, it is necessary to maintain water supply in the canal till April 15 to save standing crops. In this regard, the Government should initiate action to release some water from the Bhadra Reservoir. They urged the Minister to convene an urgent meeting with the officials concerned and issue an order to release some water from the Bhadra. They urged him to implement a pending proposal of extension of the Narayanapura Right Bank Canal of the Upper Krishna Project.
