BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday said the Government will soon fill vacancies in the Police Department. Speaking after witnessing the passing out parade of the 24th team of armed police constables here, he said police personnel will be provided modern weapons. Training to tackle the threat from terrorists and naxalites will be imparted, he added. He admitted that the department is facing staff shortage, and said vacancies will be filled soon. Officers awaiting posting will receive orders, he said. Mr. Kumaraswamy urged the department to chalk out effective plans to curb divisive forces that are encouraging terrorism and naxalism. He said though the law and order situation in the State is good compared with the rest of the country, there is scope for improving the situation. He appealed to police personnel to work with more conviction. He commended the State police for earning a reputation as a diligent and efficient force. The Government will take steps to improve its image, he said. Director-General and Inspector-General of Police B.S. Sial, Directors-General of Police Srinivasan and R. Srikumar, Bangalore city Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh and other senior officers were present. As many as 290 police constables participated in the parade. Addressing presspersons, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Government will initiate measures to fill vacancies in other departments too. Staff shortage has affected work, he said and added that the process of filling vacancies will be initiated soon.
