Mayor to open `Principia `06'

Technical extravaganza being organised by Government Engineering College

KOZHIKODE: Mayor M. Bhaskaran will inaugurate the three-day national level technical extravaganza, `Principia `06' organised by Government Engineering College, Kozhikode at the College campus at West Hill here from March 9 to 11.

The three day programme, organised by the Department of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation of the College, will include technical contests, workshops on emerging technologies, `Ultrascience,' the technical exhibition, `Epidiascope,' the technical theatre, `Galaxia, the star gazing evenings and many more sessions. The programmes are aimed at high school to postgraduate students and the tech community, which is interested in latest scientific information.

`Ultrascience,' the technical exhibition, includes exhibits from ISRO, Medical College, Kozhikode, Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), traffic police wing and All India Radio. Projects carried out by students of the college would also be displayed.

The College laboratories would be opened to the public on all the three days.

`Epidiascope,' the technical theatre, includes slide shows, mini-movies and feature films from ISRO, NASA and Regional Science Centre (RSC).

`Galaxia,' would be a programme to explore the stars under the guidance of RSC.

Technical paper contest, project contest, circuit and software design contests, tech quiz and best manager contest will be held. Prizes worth Rs.40,000 is on offer. More than 200 colleges from all over the country are expected to participate in this programme, Z.A. Zoya, principal, Government Engineering College, Kozhikode told reporters here on Tuesday.

There would be a workshop on embedded systems by Quest innovative solutions.

Sessions would be engaged by Subrahmanyam (National Institute of Technology, Calicut); V.S. Ramachandran (Regional Science Centre, Kozhikode); M. Bhaskaran (Mayor, Kozhikode Corporation), Kozhikode MP, M.P. Veerendrakumar and Collector Rachna Shah.
