Varsity asserts it has approval

Special Correspondent

COIMBATORE: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, a deemed university, has said it has the approval of the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the University Grants Commission for the courses it runs on its three campuses — Coimbatore, Bangalore and Amritapuri (Kerala).

In a release here, chief operating officer Brahmachari Abhayamrita Chaitanya said the statement was to clear the doubts in the minds of the people about the status of courses in the deemed universities.

All B.E and M.E. courses and MBA and MCA courses offered by the university had the necessary approval. The latest approval was accorded to these institutions in September 2005.

An AICTE team visited the university campus in January this year.

It "had appreciated the standards maintained in our ... university and the transparency shown by Mata Amritanandamayi Math in running these institutions. This is irrespective of the legal position that a deemed university does not require the AICTE approval."
