ANANTAPUR : CPI State secretary K. Narayana has observed that the State Government's arguments before the tribunal on Krishna waters are lopsided and harming the interests of the State. Talking to mediapersons at Kandukuru village near here on Tuesday, he cautioned the State Government that its arguments before the tribunal would cost very dear in the future. Bachawat tribunal had given rights on surplus waters of the river to the State and it should not forego the right at any cost, he opined. The State needed to fight for upholding the right lest it be even by filing a revision petition, he suggested. The State Government should not buckle under the pressure of the tribunal and give up the rights on surplus waters in the form of an affidavit, he said.
Polavaram project
Instead of only lawyers taking up the arguments before the tribunal irrigation experts should have been shouldered the responsibility, the CPI leader felt. The government should wage a legal battle, if necessary, with the other riparian States on the issue, he said. Construction of the Polavaram project too was key in making available another 80 tmcft of Krishna waters to Telangana and Rayalaseema projects. United Communist Party had always favoured the project and the possibilities to reduce the submergence by restricting the height of the dam. The site of the project was an engineering issue, he said. Delay in the construction of the project would harm the interests of Telanagana and Rayalaseema people, he said. On Handri Neeva project the CPI leader said the survey was not comprehensive and the canal alignment was being altered as per the legislators' wish. He urged the Government to complete Devadula, Dummugudem and Yallampalli projects in time by tackling all inter-state problems. The CPI would go it alone for the forthcoming gram panchayat elections, Dr. Narayana said.
