BJP privilege notices against YSR, Rosaiah

Special Correspondent

It alleges that Chief Minister is trying to mislead members

HYDERABAD: The BJP served privilege notices against Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy and Finance Minister K. Rosaiah, while the Congress tabled one against Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday.

Raising the issue, P. Janardhan Reddy (Congress) criticised Mr. Naidu for addressing a meeting by using a mike in the Assembly precincts after TDP members were suspended and said he had given a notice as it attracted privileges of the House.

Appeal to Speaker

He wanted the Chair to take action against officials and marshals.

G. Venkata Reddy (Congress) also said Mr. Naidu's action amounted to contempt of the House.

In his notice, BJP leader G. Kishan Reddy said Mr. Rosaiah had given an impression that files relating to the Sripadasagar project could not be tabled due to the Right to Information Act and tried to mislead the House. He said the Chief Minister also tried to mislead members on the issue.

Government Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy contended that only one privilege notice could be served at a time by a member.

Mr. Rosaiah stated that he had not said anything which amounted to disrespecting the House or members and urged the Speaker to take any action after the examining the issue.

Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy said he would examine the notices and inform the House on the action taken.

Mr. Kishan Reddy told reporters later that while the Speaker had specifically said he had sought a report from the Government on queries about the alleged irregularities in execution of Sripadasagar project, the Chief Minister said that the Government had voluntarily come forward to furnish all information to the Speaker.
