TDP accused of obstructing projects

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Accusing the opposition Telugu Desam of trying to hold the House to ransom, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said the TDP is creating obstacles in the construction of irrigation projects, as it is afraid of its survival if the projects are completed.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Dr. Reddy charged the TDP with "living under a false prestige that it is still ruling the State." "The way TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu indulged in personalised remarks against the Speaker is not in the interest of democracy," he said.

Asserting that the Government was committed to allowing a discussion on the apprehensions raised by the Opposition on irrigation projects, he, however, lamented that the TDP was not allowing the proper conduct of the House, as it had nothing to discuss about the issue. "While following the opinion of the majority is a democratic norm, the TDP wants the House to be conducted the way it wants," he said adding this was against the basic fundamentals of democracy.
