ELURU: Telecom authorities are not able to meet the demand for WLL phones in the city due to shortage of instruments, its General Manager L. Ananthram has said. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that the authorities were contemplating a change of software in the functioning of WLL phones.
The mechanism
The demand for WLL phones was on the rise by virtue of their inbuilt mechanism that helped them work as mobile phones within the radius of 20 km. As of now, 2,400 WLL phone connections were accorded in parts of the city which were not feasible for establishing the cable-based landline connections.
CellOne services
The General Manager said the Telecom Department was poised to offer better CellOne services in the city when compared to private operators in terms of quality. Coverage of CellOne services would be greatly improved in the city if all the four towers under conduction became operational. The BSNL authorities were making efforts to complete installation of 18 towers in different parts of the district in addition to the existing 47 by the end of March. Installation of additional towers would bring the uncovered areas under CellOne services, he said. Mr. Ananthram said BSNL would get into an expansion mode with regard to broadband connections. As many as 240 broadband connections were sanctioned for the city and 140 each for Tadepalligudem and Tanuku. All these connections would be accorded by the end of March.
