ONGOLE: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) district secretary and former Chairman of Prakasam Zilla Parishad Palaparthi David Raju has advised Left parties to sever their relations with the "corrupt" Congress party. Speaking to newspersons here on Tuesday, he charged the Congress with indulging in several irregularities and corruption in irrigation projects. Any association with the Congress would mar the reputation of the Left parties too, he felt. Mr. David Raju said that the Congress was behaving in a dictatorial manner and gagging the Opposition to cover up its "corrupt" activities. Several MLAs, belonging not only to the Telugu Desam Party but also to the TRS, the CPI and the CPI(M), considered friendly to the Congress, were suspended from the House only to stall the discussion on the steep hike in the cost of Sripada Sagar from Rs.1,300 crores to Rs. 1,700 crores overnight.
`Unprecedented act'
It was unprecedented in the recent history that MLAs of so many parties were suspended from the House, he said. He wanted the suspension to be revoked immediately and the files be placed on the table of the Speaker and also allow a debate on the issue to sustain democracy. He reminded the Congress that it came to power as it had contested the Assembly elections in alliance with the TRS, CPI and CPI(M). It should respect the views of at least those parties. Mr. David Raju said that the TDP would hold its constituency level coordination committee meetings on March 9 and 10 and the conveners would attend the State executive committee meeting at Hyderabad on March 13. The party activists would visit villages for one month from March 15 to expose irregularities in enumeration of voters, distribution of ration cards and survey conducted for Indiramma programme.
