HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has demanded that GO 72 be kept in abeyance, on the grounds that it is against the spirit of the Girglani Commission report. TRS floor leader G. Vijayarama Rao told a press conference here on Tuesday that the order was aimed at `hurting the sentiments of the people of Telangana.' "The GO is nothing but a clear attempt to harm the interest of the people of the region and is against the spirit of the Six-Point Formula." He said that the GO appeared to override the Girglani Commission report, which was highly objectionable. It was wrong to say that future recruitments would ensure strict implementation of the report. "What about thousands of jobs which had been cornered by non-locals over the years," he questioned. Mr. Rao asserted that the reference to Greater Hyderabad proposal in the GO looked as if the Government wanted to declare Hyderabad a free zone. He wanted the Government to clarify the confusion on the free zone and prove its sincerity in implementing the Girglani report. He alleged that the GO was more helpful to non-locals, who had been enjoying jobs at the cost of the locals. The only option left to the Government was to keep it in abeyance and re-examine the entire issue and render justice to the people of Telangana.
Protest against remarks
Some remarks made by former Minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy saw journalists taking serious exception. Mr. Reddy reportedly said that the media was distorting the remarks of TRS leaders, which drew loud protests. He was provoked by a question on the party chief setting repeated deadlines for the creation of Telangana. He denied that Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao had made such remarks and charged journalists with misreporting. However, Mr. Rao pacified journalists.
