Stage rasta roko on Medak-Hyderabad road; DSP promises ex gratia of Rs. 1 lakh, action against police

Sangareddy: Alleging that a three-month-old boy was trampled to death by policemen of Kolcharam police station, the boy's parents and residents of Ellupet tanda of Papannapet mandal held a rasta roko on Medak-Hyderabad road for two hours on Tuesday.

Trouble began late on Monday night near Pothamsettypalli cross roads when a tanker hit two sugarcane-carrying bullock carts.

Following this it is alleged that the tribals living in temporary shacks near the road ransacked the truck.

The driver complained to the Kolcharam police.

The dead baby, Sidhu's parents, Jamli and Jamya pointed out that SI Ravi Kumar, ASI Ramachandra Goud and constable Bumayya descended on their tents that night and started beating them.

Fearing further action the elders ran away and hid in the bushes leaving the infants in the tents.

They allege that Sidhu was found trampled to death.

However, police denied this and said the post mortem revealed that the baby had died of dehydration.

The agitating tribals relented only after Medak DSP Y. Raju arrived on the scene and promised ex gratia of Rs. 1 lakh and action against the policemen if found guilty.
