Woman forced to part with cash, gold jewellery

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: An elderly woman was forced to part with Rs. 3,000 and 90 gm of gold by a youth who gained entry into her posing as her son's student in Srirampura on Monday.

Rajamma (72), a resident of SBM Colony in Srirampura Second State, was alone at home after her son, Aprameya Swaroop, a faculty of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, left at 11.30 a.m. Soon after, someone called up asking for her son, and hung up after when said he was not there.

Soon after, a youth, reportedly in his mid-20s, came to the house and introduced himself as a student of her son at SJCE. He told her that his "sir" has sent him to fetch some cash.

Threatened with a knife

On Ms. Rajamma opening the door, he barged into the house and demanded cash and gold jewellery. She was threatened her with a knife and forced to part with her jewellery and cash.

He told her that he was a postgraduate student and was forced to do so owing to some financial difficulties. He left behind the notebook he was carrying.

A sniffer dog was pressed into service. The Kuvempunagar Police has registered a case and are investigating.
