TAMBARAM: The final voters list for Tambaram and Alandur Assembly Constituencies has been prepared. Voters would be able to check whether their names have appeared, from Wednesday. As of now, it has been reported that only those whose names figure in the final list would be eligible to vote in the elections to be held on May 8. However, officials, citing provisions of the Representation of People's Act, said there was still a chance for those left out in the final list to exercise their franchise. Those voters whose names have not been included could still apply for inclusion till the scrutiny of nominations, officials of the Kancheepuram district administration said. The final voters list is the culmination of a process that began a few months ago when the draft electoral rolls were prepared. Subsequently, voters were given time between January 27 and February 12 to make their appeals for corrections, additions, deletions, name change, shift of address and other claims and objections. Between February 12 and 19, the necessary adjustments following claims made by the voters were done and the final list prepared. Officials said they were yet to arrive at the exact figures of the total voters in the two constituencies and that it would take a couple of days more for the same. In 2001, there were approximately 8.9 lakh voters in Tambaram and 4.7 lakh in Alandur. The voters list would be displayed on the office premises of all the village panchayats, special village panchayats and municipalities in the two constituencies. It would also be displayed at the offices of the Electoral Registration Officer and Revenue Divisional Officer at Chengalpattu. Further, the lists would also be displayed at the Assistant Revenue Officer's office of Division 129 (Saligramam) and those in divisions 130 and 131 (K.K. Nagar and M.G.R. Nagar), of Zone 8 and 9 respectively of Chennai Corporation, that come under Alandur Constituency and divisions 153 (Velachery), 154 (Taramani) and 155 (Tiruvanmiyur) of Zone 10 that come under Tambaram constituency.
