Chennai : A 55-year-old man attempted self-immolation in front of the Police Commissioner's office in Egmore on Tuesday morning. Mani, who set himself on fire at Kenneth Lane, was rescued by policemen in the vicinity and taken to the Kilpauk Medical College. He is being treated for burn injuries. According to the police, Mani, a resident of Pudupet tried to set himself on fire after the Egmore police allegedly did not take action on his complaint about two persons, whom he claimed had assaulted him.
Gas leak
Four members of a family have been admitted to the Kilpauk Medical College after they sustained burn injuries following a gas leak. According to police, Bhaskar (43) and sons Muthukumar (11) and Sathish (9) from AP Road in Choolai suffered burn injuries when Visalakshi (31) lighted the gas stove on Tuesday morning without realising that there had been a leak. Visalakshi sustained nearly 50 per cent burns.
Run over by bus
A 65-year-old woman was run over by a private company bus on Perambur High Road on Tuesday morning. Nagamma from Periyar Nagar in Vyasarpadi was crossing the road near the Perambur tahsildar's office when she was hit by the bus around 6.45 a.m. The rear wheel ran over the woman and she died immediately, traffic police said. The driver of the bus, Mohan, was arrested and later remanded.
