HYDERABAD: Eight hundred delegates from 15 nations will take part in a three-day international conference on `Biotechnology for sustainable agriculture and agro industry', beginning here on March 9. Besides India, scientists from the United States, Israel, China, Pakistan and Europe are scheduled to participate in the meet. They will participate in 12 sessions that aim at transfer of agri-biotech technology to the field, S. Indrasain Reddy, Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation and M. V. Rao of the Scientific Technical Committee, told presspersons here on Tuesday. Policy-makers, industry experts, NGOs and progressive farmers will take part in the deliberations. APIDC, All-India Biotech Association, Federation of Asian Biotech Associations, ICRISAT, Andhra Pradesh - Netherlands Biotechnology Programme, Andhra Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University and Pragati Agro-Biotech are among the organisers. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will inaugurate the meet. The conference will discuss different aspects of biotechnology for improving plants, crops, livestock and fisheries in a sustainable and environmental-friendly atmosphere. An exhibition by entrepreneurs, farmers and farmer groups will display indigenous technologies and breeds. Ten progressive farmers will also be felicitated on the occasion.
