Applications for residential schools

MANGALORE: The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat has invited applications for its residential schools for sixth standard for 2006-07. A press release from A.M. Kunjappa, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, here on Tuesday said that students will receive free boarding and lodging along with uniforms, stationery and other facilities, besides free education.

The residential schools are Morarji Desai Model School at Machina in Belthangady taluk, Mulki and Kallabettu in Mangalore taluk, Navodya Model School at Mundaje in Belthangady taluk and Muslim Residential School at Kotekar in Mangalore taluk. Those interested can obtain application forms from the principals of the respective schools and submit them before March 20.

Admissions will be determined based on a written examination. It has been tentatively decided to conduct the examination on April 12. Students should have passed their fifth standard examination to be eligible to apply. The annual income of parents, apart from those who are from Scheduled Caste, Schedule Tribe and group A, should not exceed Rs. 15,000, the release added.
