Coimbatore: The district administration on Tuesday published the final electoral rolls in respect of 15 Assembly segments after rejecting 74,323 applications for the inclusion of names.

The District Collector, S. Kosalaraman, the Election Tahsildar, S. Gopal, and the respective Electoral Registration Officers of assembly segments published the rolls. The draft electoral roll published last month had 33,24,588 voters and the final electoral rolls 34,41,335 voters - an increase of 1,16,747 voters.

A total number of 1,91,070 applications were received from the 15 Assembly segments. Only 1,16,7474 forms were declared valid claims for inclusion. In most of the cases, the applicant had failed to furnish his previous address, so as to enable the officials to ensure that the name was deleted from the corresponding rolls of that area.

Door-to-door verification of claims and close scrutiny helped in screening applications effectively, officials said.

    Highest rejection

The highest number of rejections came from Tirupur Assembly segment where only 23,482 forms were declared valid as against the total of 57,056.

In Palladam, 30,670 applications were received and only 16,986 were declared valid. As against the 15,929 applications received at Mettupalayam only 10,332 were declared valid and 2,489 applications out of 7,452 were declared valid in Avanashi.

The final rolls have been pasted at the notice board in all polling stations, respective post offices, tahsildar offices and corporation offices for the public to verify whether their names are included.
