HYDERABAD: A security guard's dreams to see his son become an engineer were shattered as the latter landed in police lock-up for his craze for fast motorbikes. The Commissioner's Task Force team on Tuesday arrested B. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, 19, a second year student of a private engineering college on the charge of stealing four motorcycles.

Vishnuvardhan Reddy dreamt of going to college racing on a trendy bike like some of his classmates. For his father Shiva Shankar Reddy, who is working as a guard at a private complex, getting his son admitted to a private college itself was a big task from the monetary point of view.

    Desperate for bike

"The poor father managed to pool up all his resources and savings to pay the college fees but could not afford to buy a bike for the son, Task Force DCP G. Sudhir Babu said. Notwithstanding his father's financial inability, the student was reportedly desperate to get a motorcycle.

Moreover, the boy had a liking for bikes with high acceleration like CBZ and Pulsar. "From 2003 till date, he had stolen three CBZ bikes and one Pulsar from different parts of the city," Mr. Sudheer said. A resident of Langerhouz, the teenager used to take three CBZ motorcycles by turns to his college at Chevella by changing the number plates.

He sold the Pulsar motorcycle but allegedly stole it again. To make sure that his father was not aware of his deeds, Reddy used to park the motorcycles at the parking lot at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station. A Task Force constable grew suspicious on learning that the student was using three motorcycles though his father was working as a security guard.

When grilled, Vishnuvardhan Reddy confessed to his crime. He was handed over to the Gopalapuram police for further action.
