BANGALORE: The State police have been put on a high alert following the twin blasts at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. Director-General and Inspector-General of Police B.S. Sial told The Hindu that Commissioners of Police of Bangalore, Mysore and Hubli-Dharwad, Inspectors-General of Police of all the five ranges and the Superintendents of Police of all districts have been instructed to maintain a high alert in their areas. Police have been directed to screen suspicious people at the airport, railway stations and bus terminals and also check hotels and lodges. Additional forces will be deployed, wherever necessary, to maintain law and order, Mr. Sial said. Even the staff of the State Intelligence wing have been alerted and the lower-level personnel have been sensitised about the matter, he said. Bangalore Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh said the city police are on a high alert. "All senior officers, including me, are on the rounds. We have covered sensitive areas and mobilised our resources to prevent any untoward incident," Mr. Singh said.
Condemned
The Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), Karnataka Branch, has condemned the blasts in Varanasi.
