BANGALORE: The autorickshaw meter will run faster from March 15. In an upward revision of fares, the Regional Transport Authority, Bangalore Urban District, has fixed the minimum autorickshaw fare at Rs. 10 for the first 1.6 kilometres.

The fare for every kilometre thereafter, has also been hiked to Rs. 6 (for three passengers). The existing fare per kilometre is Rs. 5.

While waiting charge for the first five minutes will be free, one rupee will be charged for every 15 minutes thereafter. The luggage charges for first 20 kg will be free. After 20 kg, for every 20 kg, Rs. 2 will be charged. The maximum passenger luggage to be carried is 50 kg.

Passengers will have to pay one and half times the fare between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Autorickshaw drivers will have to recalibrate to exhibit new fares within three months. Till the fare meters are recalibrated, approved fare conversion chart certified by the concerned RTO should be displayed in the autorickshaw.

All the drivers should display driving licence particulars in the autorickshaws from April 1.
