KOCHI: With the City Police increasing vigil within city limits, following a couple of housebreaks, the crime graph has come down. However, the disturbances have moved on to suburbs, it seems. But, the police are maintaining that incidents being reported from the suburbs, especially neighbouring areas of Thripunithura, do not form a trend. "These incidents are highly isolated and there is no need for public to panic," said P. Vijayan, City Police Commissioner. One person was killed and one seriously injured in a planned attack in a suburb of Thripunithura on Monday morning. A couple of housebreaks were also reported in the Thripunithura police station limits. The Thripunithura Municipality is now charting out an action plan to check the fear element from spreading among public. "A meeting of councillors will be convened soon to discuss the issue," said Renjini Suresh, chairperson, Thripunithura Municipality. The municipality took initiative to establish constant interaction with the police following instances of housebreaks in close succession. Steps are now being taken to better this communication link. "The crisis subsided once civic squads at ward level were taken out and councillors played very active role in this," said Ms. Suresh. The police have put up pickets along suburbs like Udayamperoor, where the murder took place, and increased patrolling. "There is no tension in these regions. The murder reported last month was connected to family feud and not an organised crime. The murder committed on Monday was unexpected," said Bijo Alexander, Circle Inspector, Thripunithura. In support of the argument that the law and order situation is under control in the suburbs, the police officials pointed out the case of Palluruthy, where much goonda activities were once reported. "No presence of outsiders were reported in the West Kochi region recently. Except for instances of petty crime, the situation has not taken a turn for the worse here," said K. Laljy, Circle Inspector, Palluruthy.
