Thiruvananthapuram: There were unruly scenes in front of the office of the District Medical Officer (DMO) on Tuesday morning when candidates who had come for an interview were told by the authorities that it had been postponed indefinitely. The interviews for filling four vacancies of barbers in various Government hospitals in the district had been scheduled for Tuesday. Call letters had been sent to 214 candidates on the basis of the list that had been sent from the employment exchange. The candidates, most of whom had come from faraway places in the northern districts, got agitated when they were told upon arrival at the DMO's office that the interview had been postponed. They alleged that the call letters for interview were a hoax and that there was some fraud involved in the postponement of the interview without any prior intimation to candidates. The district administration officials told the candidates that the decision to postpone the interview was taken on the advice of the District Collector, as the dates for the Assembly election were announced on March 1. The DMO said that the authorities had issued a press release on Sunday regarding the postponement, but that it had been carried only in some regional editions of newspapers. The crowd dispersed around noon after the DMO gave a signed letter to all candidates that they would be informed in advance about the next interview date.
