Coimbatore: The Avinalishlingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, a deemed university here, has asserted that it has the approval of the apex bodies for all the courses it offers. K.Kulandaivel, Chancellor , said this statement was to clear the confusion, if any, in the minds of the parents who had admitted their daughters to B.E degree course in the university. The varsity started the Faculty of Engineering in 1996. The approval of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and also the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was obtained for all the courses it was offering for B. E degree. He said the AICTE Commission had visited the varsity's Faculty of Engineering, inspected the available facilities and had recommended the courses and the number of students to be admitted to each course. " This is being followed and this Deemed University is following the norms and standards of the AICTE for the courses it is offering. This is being done irrespective of the legal position that a Deemed University does not require AICTE approval", he said. The Chancellor said that the varsity was very particular that the highest standards should be maintained and for that, all norms, standards and guidelines of the AICTE and UGC were being followed meticulously.
