Suva (Fiji): Fiji's ailing 85-year-old President Ratu Josefa Iloilo was re-elected on Wednesday only hours after he rejected calls by some of the nation's influential tribal chiefs to not seek a second five-year term. The South Pacific nation's powerful 55-member Great Council of Chiefs, which elects the President and Vice-President, also reappointed Vice-President Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi. Neither man was challenged for his post, said sources close to the meeting, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter. Mr. Iloilo has been Fiji's President since 2001. His re-election came just days after he returned from Australia after treatment. AP
