KOCHI: Thousands paid homage to the popular film and serial actor M.S. Thripunithura who died at Shoranur on Wednesday. He was 64. The end came at 4 a.m. when he was returning to Ernakulam from Kannur after performing puranakathaprabhasha nam at Ancharakandi Bhagavathy Temple near Thalassery. He developed cardiac problems while boarding a Shoranur-Ernakulam train. Passengers took him to Railway Hospital, Shoranur, where he was declared dead. The body was brought to his residence at Poonithura at 10 a.m. Among those who paid their last respects to Mr. Thrupunithura included actors Mammootty, Innocent, Cochin Haneefa, Siddique, Manoj K. Jayan, Kaviyur Ponnamma, Harishree Ashokan and Jayasoorya. He is survived by wife Bhagyalakshmi and daughters Pooja, Poornima and Pushpa.
Our Special Correspondent writes from Thiruvananthapuran Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his Cabinet colleagues condoled the demise of M.S. Thripunithura. Mr. Chandy described him as a gifted actor who had proved his talent in the field of music also. His demise was a big loss.
A versatile artiste
From teaching mathematics to acting in films and sharing his culinary skills with all those he loved, M.S. Thripunithura leaves behind innumerable memories that will never fade away.
For many, he was an artiste who never lived in the world of glamour. the play `Mochanam,' he won the State best actor award.
His association with the theatre movement lasted for over three decades.
