NEW DELHI: The Delhi police have recovered 4 kg of deadly PETN explosive, four grenades, an AK-56 rifle and two pistols from the alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief in Bangladesh, Ghulam Yazdani, and another militant belonging to Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HuJI), Ahsan Ullah Hasan, who were killed in an encounter with the Special Cell at Holumbi Kalan in North-West Delhi on Wednesday. According to the police, the tip-off about the activities of Yazdani was provided by the two Bangladeshi Lashkar militants Anishul Murshlin and Muhibbul Muttakin who were arrested last month at New Delhi railway station. The twin brothers allegedly revealed that they had supplied explosives to Yazdani to trigger explosions in India. Following the lead, the Special Cell on Tuesday learnt that Yazdani would come to Holumbi Kalan in a Maruti-800 bearing an Uttar Pradesh registration number to meet his contact in the early hours of Wednesday. Subsequently a team comprising Inspectors Mohan Chand Sharma and Bardrish Dutt laid a trap there. "Around 5-45 a.m., the team spotted the vehicle that stopped near a T-point. Two persons alighted from it and they were probably waiting for someone when the police challenged them asking them to surrender. But, the duo opened fire," said Joint Commissioner of Police Karnal Singh. The police fired in retaliation, in which the duo sustained injuries. They were rushed to Ambedkar Hospital where they were declared brought dead. During a search, the police recovered a Moradabad petrol-pump's receipt from the car. In a hidden cavity, they found fake Indian currency worth Rs. 47,000 and incriminating documents, apart from arms and ammunition. From their person, Rs. 30,000 and a SIM card issued in Bangladesh were recovered.
