This Day That Age
The acceptance by the Government of India of the detailed project report for the Bhilai Steel Works, furnished by the Soviet authorities in December 1955, was communicated by Mr. S. Bhoothalingam, Secretary, Ministry of Iron and Steel, to Mr. Khlebnikov, Deputy Minister for Iron and Steel of the USSR, in New Delhi on March 8. Letters were simultaneously exchanged between them regarding certain modifications which have been agreed upon and which will be incorporated in the design of the steel works. The agreement concluded with the USSR in February last year contemplated a steel works with two blast furnaces. As a result of discussions with the Indian Steel Mission which visited the USSR in August-September last year, the plant will consist of three blast furnaces for producing iron.
